Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa alerted over the increasing drug related crimes in the country.He said he was shocked to hear about the latest murder of a nine year old girl at Atulugama, Bandaragama by a drug addict in the area.
The Opposition Leader visited the slain girl’s house at Atulugama with Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Kalutara District Organizer Ajith P. Perera.
The Opposition Leader said these inhuman killings are not condoned by peace loving people in any society.
The nine-year old victim Fathima Ayesha was a resident of Atulugama and studying at a school in the same area.The Opposition Leader met the parents of the deceased girl and also several other people in the neighbourhood.
He said action stringent must be taken against drug peddlers, drug sellers and dealers and also drug smugglers and the drug menace should be eliminated.
He said drug menace could also be eliminated if responsible authorities take speedy action and hand over the wrongdoers to the Judiciary for punishment without considering their status in society.
The Opposition Leader said incidents of this nature had occurred even earlier, but a few months later such incidents were completely forgotten by the people.
Premadasa therefore made a fervent request from responsible authorities to take this ugly incident into consideration and make sure that this nature of drug related drastic incidents will never happen in our country in future.
He said although the Government is talking much about the strengthening National Security in the country, many people in the recent past lost their lives due to shooting incidents.
The Opposition Leader also highlighted the sudden killings of people who gave evidence in some important cases.
